The chain of optical stores ”Ophthalmos” was founded by the optician Athanasios Birlis with the first pilot store in Ilioupolis. The chain is the only one in the field of optical goods that has applied the franchising system for its development since 1995. Since 2003 the chain has been expanding to the rest of Greece, reaching today eight out of the twenty-seven stores outside Attica.

At the same time the network is also developing new activities such as low vision aids, surgical loops , hearing aids by collaborating with the leading companies Multilens, Optergo, Widex, Phonak.
